“I am proud and humbled to be Labour’s Candidate for the Scottish Parliament Seat of Edinburgh Eastern.
“I joined the Labour Party in 1982 at a time when the Labour Party was struggling to be heard. I joined because it stood for the values that motivate me; justice, equality and voice for those usually unheard.
“For all my adult life I have been involved in movements for change in how we share what we have so that others might have their lives changed by receiving what they need. I remain passionate about standing up against injustice and walking with people so they can regain power over their lives and their living.”
“I believe that to share is to receive ourselves. It is in working for the content of our neighbour that we discover the contentment that is the human condition ourselves. In loving not just our neighbour but our enemy we speak with more than words about what it is to be truly human”
For the last 11 years I have served as local councillor, first of Restalrig Ward and since 2007 Craigentinny/Duddingston ward. I know that by walking with people and working with community groups much more has been achieved than would have been done had I taken the traditional “I will do it for you” model of political engagement. I intend to keep that way of serving as an MSP
“If you sit still for a moment and listen you can here crashing noise again and again – its the sound of SNP broken promises – class sizes, new schools, teacher numbers, cash for first time buyers, student debt, end of Council Tax, even a referendum of independence, to name but a few. I believe that Scotland deserves better.”
“At a time crisis people need to be able to trust that those in power will know what they want to do and how they are going to do it. Scotland needs the kind of clear leadership and collective action that lie at the heart of Scottish Labour values.”
